Why We Recommend Twice a Week — And What the Time and Financial Commitment Actually Looks Like
If you’re considering Emerald Coast NeuroFeedback’s services, you likely already know a bit about how Neurofeedback works. You’ve probably heard it’s a non-invasive treatment for conditions such as ADHD and anxiety disorders. You may also know that the team at Emerald Coast NeuroFeedback uses EEG biofeedback to train your brain to self-regulate. People who come to us turn to Neurofeedback to improve focus, reduce anxiety and feel better.
Even though you have some basic information, you may still have questions about how Neurofeedback works. You may want more information about session pacing, cost and the overall time commitment. The team at Emerald Coast NeuroFeedback is here to help. During your initial evaluation, we’ll help you understand what Neurofeedback involves so you can decide whether this all-natural, non-invasive approach is right for you.
The Question Asked In Every Consult
How often, for how long and how much?
Every patient has unique concerns and goals when they begin Neurofeedback, yet the same questions arise in every initial Neurofeedback consultation.
How Often?
People want to know how often they’ll come to Emerald Coast NeuroFeedback sessions. Twice a week is the standard schedule for our 45- to 60-minute sessions.
For How Long?
Every person responds to treatment differently. Most people need 25 to 40 sessions to achieve meaningful, long-lasting results. Some can stop after fewer sessions, while others need more.
How Much?
There’s no way to estimate the cost of a full course of Neurofeedback, because we can’t know in advance how many sessions you’ll need to complete the training. We accept HSA, FSA, 0% interest financing options and packages for individuals and families.
Why Twice A Week Is Our Standard
The brain learns through repetition. Repeating an action again and again facilitates long-term changes in brain behavior. That is why twice a week is the minimum cadence for most patients; it produces the most measurable change.
When Intensives Fit
Some need an intensive schedule to meet their goals. Intensives occur multiple times per day or week for several days in a week. While not everyone is a good fit for intensives, in many cases, a more intensive schedule can be very beneficial for seeing rapid improvements. You’ll learn whether intensives are right for you during the initial evaluation.
Who needs intensives?
- Clients who are at the end of their rope and need to see fast, meaningful change
- Clients seeking peak performance under time constraints
- Clients who can travel to Pensacola or our second location in Fort Walton Beach for a week or more at a time
If you think you need intensives, we’ll discuss it during the initial evaluation.
What A Session Actually Looks Like
The first session lasts about ninety minutes, during which we ask questions to determine which protocols will help you meet your goals. After the first session, each subsequent session lasts about 45 to 60 minutes. Sessions take place in a calm, quiet room with a comfortable chair and a display screen. A licensed therapist oversees the process and our technicians guide your session. During that time, you’ll relax and watch the screen while sensors are placed on your scalp. Depending on your set of protocols, the technician may change protocols midway through a session, which sometimes involves moving sensors to a different location on the scalp. Time Commitment, Plainly
The time commitment for Neurofeedback includes travel time to and from the office, plus 60 minutes (or a little less) per session. We have two convenient locations in Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach, so you can choose the location that’s best for you. While we can’t predict the precise number of sessions needed, we can give you a better estimate based on your specific goals and needs in the initial consult call. Often, once we have completed your evaluation, we have an even better idea of how many protocols are indicated and the average course of sessions for each. We’ll re-evaluate when growth plateaus and adjust your protocol as needed.
Cost Commitment, Plainly
The cost depends on your individualized plan and the number of sessions. We do not bill insurance, but you can use an HSA or FSA account. We also offer 0% financing. In some cases, patients can save money with intensive sessions (when applicable).
Is It Worth It? Our Honest Answer
One question we hear regularly is whether Neurofeedback is worth the cost. We understand that our clients invest significant time and money in this process. If we don’t think we’re the right fit for a person, we tell them. We’ve seen extraordinary results with Neurofeedback, and we hope to help you with Neurofeedback, too.
